I love blogs... and am hoping more of you will post so I can get to know you better and stay updated with your families!
My name is Shaynee Boynton, daughter of Sydnee Smith, and granddaughter of Wanda McAllister. I am also a mother of two... Cooper who is almost 5, and Darbee who is 14 months. I live in Las Vegas, and am married to Randy.
We were at the reunion this year as well... I couldn't miss a chance to see family and visit Gunlock! I have many fond memories of spending long weekends at Grandma Mac's house in Gunlock... picking blackberries and cherries, playing in the creek and catching crawdads, trying to mimic her sheep, eating freshly picked corn on the cob, gazing at all of the stars at night, swimming in Aunt Maxine's pool, and spending precious time with family and friends.
One of my clearest memories is watching Grandpa Clark slice a rattlesnake in two after it wrapped itself around his legs as he was shoveling in the yard. That shovel sure did come in handy, but I was so shocked to watch the snake still slither even after it was cut! I was so scared after that... I spent an hour hiding under Grandma Mac's bed. It was a lot for a little city girl to take in! ; )
My son Cooper loves Gunlock as well, and with the addition of the beautiful grass and play set at the park this year, I had to practically drag him away when the reunion was over! And... I just ate the last piece of candy that my mom bought at the auction. YUM! Does anyone have the recipes for those two candies? My mouth needs more!
